Same-Day Crowns vs. Lab-Made Crowns
While a CEREC crown from our Greater Anchorage offices means fast, quality treatment, there are also benefits to a traditional lab-made crown. Crowns made in a lab can be fabricated from a variety of materials, meaning the final result can be more durable, lifelike, or customized.
We also use a local lab, so turnaround times are faster than average, but lab-made crowns will always take longer to create than CEREC crowns and will be more expensive. You'll also have to wear a temporary crown made from resin to protect your tooth while the lab technicians create your permanent restoration.
The type of crown that's best for you will depend on your goals and budget, but our dentists will help guide you to the correct treatment.
Recovery
Some patients may experience mild discomfort and tooth sensitivity following the procedure, but these symptoms can typically be managed with over-the-counter pain medication or specialized toothpaste. Patients may also want to eat softer foods and avoid chewing with the crowned side of the mouth until the discomfort subsides.

If you're not the perfect candidate for a crown, or you want a more conservative treatment option, our team can consider solutions like:
A porcelain crown can correct extensive damage, but inlays and onlays can address concerns that are less severe. Inlays fill the area between the tooth cusps, and onlays cover both this area and the cusps.
While a porcelain crown can cover a deeply discolored tooth, a veneer may be a more appropriate solution in some cases. These thin shells of porcelain fit over the front of a tooth to conceal minor flaws and staining.
If you're worried about chips or cracks in your tooth, dental bonding may be all that you need to correct them. Dental bonding uses a tooth-colored resin to reshape teeth and conceal imperfections.
If your tooth can't be saved with a crown, tooth extraction may be the best route to prevent infection and decay from spreading to the gums and surrounding teeth. If your tooth has to be extracted, our dentists can provide an implant-supported crown.

Will insurance cover a dental implant-supported crown?
Dental implants are prosthetic tooth roots that can support dental crowns, dental bridges, and dentures to replace lost teeth from the root to the chewing surface. While most insurance plans will contribute to the cost of dental crowns, basic insurance does not cover dental implants.
